Importance of Renewal of the Cell Culture

While our initial work (Connors 1999) confirmed feasibility of using programmable flow and SI apparatus for cellular studies with fluorescence detection, it also revealed the Achilles Heel of cellular studies carried out on cellular culture affixed at the bottom of a NUNC chamber. A repeated stimulation of the same cellular culture results in degrading of cellular response. This observation led to the idea of using beads as carriers for automated renewal of cellular culture.
